Yes, That's a Paper Clip Holder

Is this not the most adorable paper clip holder that you have ever seen? It was given to me last week as a birthday gift and I just love it. Well, it is my favorite color after all. It's just so cute I brought it home from work, undecided whether to use it at work or at home. I think I'll bring it back to work now that I've lived with it at home on my time off. It just makes me happy to look at it.

So now my birthday/vacation week comes to an end. It's so great to enjoy some time getting caught up on things, visiting with mom and dad and being able to play creatively. I also spent time creating my family tree on but it's quite time consuming. I keep getting stuck trying to find information on my grandparents, none of whom were born in America. It will be a long and slow process, I'm sure.

This week, I'm looking forward to the start of Blogging Your Way e-course, Picture Inspiration with Tracey Clark and the third week of another Jessica Sprague class. Can't wait to do more with my photography now that I have my new camera and these classes to inspire me further. Sadly for the favorite feline, Miss Gracie will be missing me. I've never known one kitty who can be so attached. Often, she requires that I stay in a room with her even if she is sleeping. The moment I leave the room, she gets up, finds me, and lets me know that I must follow her back to wherever she was. Oh, I really don't mind. I just give her lots of kitty love. What's ahead for you this week?

The Fresh Colors of Spring

Oh, yes, it's almost spring! Well, maybe faux spring. Last week I got a new camera, so I was hunting around my home for objects to shoot. These flowers are one of my favorite subjects. No, they are not real but they make me happy just the same.

I selected some items that went together stylistically to create a vignette. Normally the mirror does not reside on the boxes but don't the colors just go together beautifully?

Usually I am all about color. However, there is still one room in my home that is painted white (bedroom and adjoining bath). Even though I love color, I do adore the all antique white rooms. This one will stay neutral. Besides, it provides very nice lighting in the afternoon for photos.

"I may be faux, but I'm pretty just the same".
Sincerely, The Flowers

I have a feeling that I may not be the only person who buys and displays frames, but does not put a photo in them. I guess it may be laziness but honestly, I really think it's just because I love the frame. I have several in my home like that. That's not so bad, is it?

Oh, about my new camera. I got the Nikon D7000 and I love it. For quite some time, I have been thinking of upgrading. Well, I finally decided to go ahead and I'm so glad that I did. If any of you Nikon gals are thinking about that camera, I definitely recommend looking into it.

It's Cherry Blossom Time

Why do I love February?

Because the cherry blossom trees begin to bloom. Little buds at first, then gradually over a period of days, the trees become fully abloom. Lucky for me, we have several in front of our home and many in our town. I adore seeing the white and pink trees as I'm traveling about town, and am a bit sad when all the blooms are gone. They only stay here for a few months, but oh they make February and March special. What a wonderful harbinger of Spring.

A Valentine Rose for You

Aren't roses the perfect Valentine flower? Actually, any day is a perfect day for roses.

Which is why I always have roses outside my house. I would keep them inside, however a particular kitty named Nippy thinks they are a feline dessert and insists on making a snack of them.

So, I have container baby roses out in front and larger rose bushes in back. Unfortunately, the garden pests like the roses as much as I do so it's a constant battle to keep them in tip top shape. Luckily, they are pretty hearty and always bloom again.

But today, we celebrate roses for all their loveliness.

Love is All You Need: A Valentine Challenge

Make Something Special

This Valentine's Day, make something special!

My latest challenge came from Most Wanted, a lifestyle magazine on the money-saving site They will be posting various projects for everyone to make for Valentine's Day. So what did I choose to make? A faux cake on pedestal - very romantic! Now, I must admit the idea was not entirely mine. Some years ago, I saw this type of project in a magazine that inspired me, so I've given it my own touch to make it special.

To start, you'll need a candlestick holder for the base, a lid for the pedestal and a round box.

Select some of your favorite paper, trims and embellishments to adorn it.

Measure the paper to adhere to the sides of the box. Because the lid was very tight on this box, I chose not to paper the entire side, but rather only up to the lid edge. If necessary, cut additional pieces to adhere so the entire side is covered.

Next, paint the lid white.

I used a tin lid to form the pedestal base. You can use any kind as long as it has a lip. To make for better adherence, lightly scuff the lid inside where the glass candlestick will be adhered.

Using a hot glue gun, adhere trims around the sides.

Next, turn it over and hot glue the candlestick to the bottom of the lid used as the pedestal.

Turn it back over, and brush white glue across the top. Sprinkle on glitter until it is completely covered.

Ooooh, look how pretty it is starting to look!

Do the same thing to the painted box lid, brushing white glue across the top and cover with glitter.

Select your trims and adhere around the box.

At this point, I decided a string of pearls would look nice on the pedestal, so I went back and added those.

After adhering trim to the box, do the same with the lid.

Using silver tinsel or pipe cleaners, bend into the shape of a heart while forming a foot at the base.

Adhere the heart using a hot glue gun.

Once the heart is adhered, add your embellishments.

Simply hot glue the box to the glittered pedestal and...

Voila! A perfect faux cake for your sweetie. (It's okay to be your own sweetie if you like)

Oh, wait... a little vintage bird has flown by. Yes, I think that is exactly what it needs!

Let's not let it fly away. Adhere our friend the birdie using glue or a pick.

The more you look at it, the more you may want to add just a little something more. No problem, embellish to your heart's content. You might want to add some additional flowers at the base of the box.

It does look good enough to eat, but be careful or you are sure to get a mouthful of glitter!

I hope you enjoyed making this for your sweetie, whether it be a friend or family.

From my heart to yours...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Please, Have a Slice of My Lovely Dessert

Cheesecake, Anyone?

Irresistible. A tiny, pink raspberry cheesecake, just the size for a doll party. Or not. Picture perfect, I have to photograph it before slicing it into two pieces and sharing it with my sister.

The raspberries on top made it just that much yummier.

I like to think I don't each that much dessert, and generally I don't (except for Almondina biscotti but's that's another story). Actually, it's my sister that is a bad influence on me as she insists on having a dessert each evening.

Food is truly love to her so I hate to turn her down as it is the highlight of her day.

Another Great Food Find

Last week at Trader Joe's, I found these delicious lemon cookies in their new food aisle.

Perfect for February, they are heart shaped gobs of lusciousness.

These would be great for a luncheon or tea party. Look for them in the bag with the pretty lettering on top.

Now, they are a bit on the sweet side, so two was my limit. But, they are made with good ingredients including almond meal so don't feel too guilty.

Have one, won't you?

Wow, since this started last Monday it has been a fabulous ride. I've received so many nice comments from sweet bloggers all over the country and world. Due to my work schedule, I haven't had a chance yet to visit too many participating blogs, but I will. It's a bit overwhelming with the number taking part in this, over 750 so far! I'm so impressed with everyone who has been able to visit so many already. This weekend I have to work on a special Valentine's project for a website in the U.K., followed by my first work-meeting with the professional organizer (yes, we are going to be starting the organization project on Super Bowl Sunday!) but little by little, I'll be looking at the wonderful posts that others have put up for this event. I'll be there soon!
