Welcome to my creative nest!
What great timing! I just finished reading one of my favorite copies of Where Women Create (again!).
So you’re here to party. What a fun party this will be! Join me as I share with you where it all happens and some of my favorite items of inspiration.
I am lucky to have a spare bedroom which I refer to as my “back room”. That’s because it all happens here… not only is it my creative space but it’s where I do all my computer work, file papers and watch television.
Right now, I have two computers. My older PC and my newer iMac. I have not fully transitioned yet, and honestly, I’m not sure I want to. But I do love that large glass screen on the Mac!
I love my window and wish I had even more of them as I like a lot of light. I do have four lamps in the room though!
Just over one year ago, I reorganized this room and was very happy with it. Since then, I’ve been hitting the flea market and have acquired lots of little things. I’d like to have fewer things out, but I just love every little thing.
The walls are the color of hot chocolate with antique white trim. It’s a nice neutral that I like for a long time and finally painted it. It’s so hard making color decisions! Now, I’d love it if it was a pretty light blue, or another happy color.
My painted white chair is covered with a red and white ticking upon which a toile pattern cushion sits. The cushion is really for Miss Gracie who likes to help me out, but she usually prefers being right on table where she can easily grab shiny little items with her paws.
Here’s my collection of “stuff”. I’m not sure how to better describe it!
In particular, I love my mini Eiffel Tower and my mannequin. I’ve dressed my wire mannequin form in a tulle skirt dressed up with ribbon and flowers.
Oooooh, there’s all kinds of things here. My collection of Somerset magazines including Somerset Life, Somerset Home, Artful Blogging and of course, Where Women Create!
I like to rest my inspiration board and mini mirror door atop the secretary desk.
It’s just high enough that the kitties won’t jump up here.
The white frames provide a nice accent against the chocolate walls.
Have I pointed out that besides a stack of notes, there is a package of cookies and four tins of Altoids on the computer desk? Must have my snacks!
Alert! We interrupt this blog party to bring you this photo of an old ballerina cake topper (thank you Carole, it’s one of my favorite items).
I just got a brand new lens this week – it’s a Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro lens and I’m so excited. I’ve only had time to play a little but I absolutely love doing macro photography and I can’t believe how close up I got this! Oh, this makes me happy!
Now, back to the blog party… As I mentioned, I have my inspirational magazines here which I love to browse for ideas. Now, let’s take a look at some more of the items that provide inspiration or are just plain lovely to look at.
Mmmmm…… velvet flowers in a Victorian vase waiting to made into something fabulous.
Some flea market finds pinned onto the inspiration board.
Bring the garden inside! A favorite way to decorate is with garden items, bringing the outdoors in.
Must keep crepe paper handy… lovely for trim and making rosettes!
My little Eiffel Tower with a bit of floral and tinsel…
The little birdies have nested atop a little pink box, guarding a little antique button collection. I know they are safe with these two.
Did I mention that it’s Christmas all year long at my house?
Oodles of ribbon in lots of drawers… and fabulous papers all rolled up. More than I will ever use!
Love my supplies tote purchased last year at the Silver Bella vendor market from Artistic Bliss.
Oh, here’s the tiny ballerina that we saw in the Macro shot just a while ago. Isn’t she a tiny little thing?
Ohhhhhhh, more velvet leaves. Just yummy. Need I say more?
Wonderful books and magazines of inspiration abound.
Random items are placed on a bulletin board. Just because. If it’s yummy, up it goes!
Not only is it Christmas all year long, but it’s Valentine’s Day too.
More yumminess. Just some photos and calligraphy pieces.
A little collage adds sweetness to the mix.
A cuppa of flowers adds that garden touch again.
Hmmm… here’s a tiny Eifel Tower (as opposed to the small Eiffel Tower that sits close by). I have at least three Eiffel Towers in my home including the three foot one in my living room. Love that touch of Paris.
Be sure to keep your needles and thread way up high where your companion animals can’t get them!
Oh my gosh! How do I love German glass glitter? Let me count the ways…
I love it in pink, mauve, blue, gold, silver… well gosh, in any color!
Tip: use a photo holder to display paper art, cards, menus, or any kind of artwork that makes your heart sing.
Atop my wire mannequin sits a bouquet of gerbera daisies and a pink fairy crown. Did you know pink is my favorite color?
Love this flea market finds. A little hand to hold the old postcards, wrapped with love in sheer ribbon.
Why not use the mirror space to display photos and cards?
The whole small Eiffel Tower sits atop a toile case. And did I not warn you already about it being Christmas?
Just a big ‘ole S! Why not embellish it with vintage flowers and ribbon?
If you don’t already have an inspiration board, it’s a great addition to your space.
So now you’ve seen our space. Miss Gracie and I are a team when it comes living the creative life. Very few items are created without her feline input. Actually, it’s quite nice to have her help. She picks out art items that she thinks I should create with and I lounge in the sun with her in return. A nice trade, I think.
Well, we’ve ended today’s journey through our creative space. Miss Gracie and I thank you for visiting. She really isn’t sticking her tongue out at you, truly she enjoyed your visit. She’s just waving goodbye from our back room until next year, hoping you won’t be a stranger and will return again to visit us soon.
A special thank you to Karen at My Desert Cottage who is hosting this fabulous blog party!

Sharon,
What an absolutely beautiful space! I am glad you allow yourself to put your little flea market find here and there...that's what makes it really you and gives you something to delight in every time you enter. I think the choice of chocolate brown is an excellent one and love how the sunlight trickles through your room.
You did a beautiful job of presenting this. Truly, you are multitalented!
